St Clare’s celebrate well-deserved GCSE results
St Clare’s School, Porthcawl is celebrating brilliant GCSE results again this year. More than a third of our pupils secured 35% Grade 7+ (A**/A) and 93.4% Grade 4+ (A**/C). St Clare’s delivers the English curriculum for GCSE examinations, with the coveted Grade 9 the equivalent of A** denoting exceptional performance. Although University might seem a long way off when deciding on GCSEs, choices at this stage can directly impact on options when it comes to A-Levels and, in turn when applying to university.
35.7% of grades achieved were 7 or above (A**/A) and 93.4% of grades achieved were 4 or above (A**/C) compared to the UK national average of 68.2%. The school delivers an excellent teaching and learning programme matched by equally impressive pastoral care and support. Huge congratulations to all our pupils who have worked so hard during the GCSE courses, their grades truly reflect their ability and dedication.
Headteacher, Helen Hier, said,
“I am incredibly proud of the achievements of all our GCSE pupils. At St Clare’s, we concentrate on what works best for our pupils: high quality teaching, outstanding pastoral care, and exceptional academic support. These fantastic results are testimony to their hard work and perseverance but also the support and dedication of their teachers. We cannot wait to see the pupils continue to thrive and grow throughout their Sixth Form studies.
It is a pleasure to celebrate these results with all our pupils today and to wish them the best of luck for their future studies. Most of our pupils are staying at St Clare’s to continue their A-Level studies into Sixth Form so they will continue to be a vibrant part of our school community over the next two years.”
Today’s GCSE results follow last week’s exceptional A-Level results where students achieved 68% A*/B grades. St Clare’s has been in the top 5% of top performing A-Level schools in the UK since 2018 and anticipates this to be the same this year. The 2023 A-Level grades build on the excellent results seen in previous years with St Clare’s achieving a clean sweep of 100% pass rate across all subjects, highlighting the school’s strength in both academic and creative fields. The majority of pupils secured their first-choice universities to read competitive subjects such as Medicine and Law or exciting apprenticeships in Deloitte. We wish them all every success as they take the next step on their educational journey.
