Enhancing the curriculum.
At St Clare’s, an enriching school experience is as important as academic progress. We aim to provide a multitude of trips, musicals, sporting, and cultural events while promoting employability for our older pupils.
The curriculum is complemented by a comprehensive programme that offers a regular schedule of wide-ranging clubs from chess, cheese and cookery club, to French and football and investment banking to international film club.

Cheese Club
Mrs Smart’s monthly cheese club is more than just a place for pupils to gather and eat cheese, they’re a learning experience as well.
In accordance with Natasha’s Law, all the cheeses are labelled with their ingredients and in their original packaging. The crackers are nut free and vegetarian, and there is also salted Welsh butter. Cheeses tasted, have included: Arrigoni Lucifero, Roquefort, Petit Grey, Iberico and Coastal Bite Cheddar.
Chess Club
Chess club provides an opportunity to meet new friends and boost social interaction, without any requirement or expectation to be at a certain level of skill.
Recognised benefits of playing chess include the opportunity to develop creative and analytical skills, as well as improve cognitive skills, strategic planning and decision making.
STEM Club
Mr Jones’ STEM Club gives pupils the chance to explore subjects such as science, technology, engineering and Maths in less formal settings.
Years 10-12 recently got stuck into the F1® in Schools STEM Challenge. F1® in Schools is a technology challenge involving the construction and testing of a scale model of a Formula One car powered by compression gas.
Musicals & Productions
Everyone was back on stage before Christmas for Murder at Drizzle Manor, our Senior and Sixth Form production, written and directed by Ms Williams, our Drama teacher.
With music, drama, lighting, costumes and make-up playing a role, this is a chance for all pupils and staff to get involved.
ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME
Educating the whole child.
At St Clare’s School, we endeavour to educate the whole child. Our aim is to send young people out into the world of work as responsible, balanced young citizens.
We do this by offering activities that form an essential part of promoting employability and enhancing academic attainment. In doing so, pupils are taught essential life skills that have benefits well beyond the classroom.
Developing life-skills and character education have always been at the forefront of our day-to-day pastoral care at St Clare’s. All pupils partake in a vast range of activities in our unique Enrichment Programme whilst focussing on wellbeing.
Through ‘pupil voice’ and as voted by our Student Council, the Enrichment Programme is devised into six tailor-made sessions, exploring skills that sometimes are not explicitly addressed on the timetable.
From team building challenges to debating with other schools across the globe, we aim to enhance pupil employability through the additional skills acquired.
A charity focus is central to our Enrichment Programme; pupils lead the planning of events to generate a contribution to others.
DofE - THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH'S AWARD
Empowerment through challenge.
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE) is an important part of our extra-curricular programme and very popular with St Clare's pupils. It is an example of our core values: Achievement, Challenge and Excellence.
Every year, pupils embark on this nationally recognised programme – which is highly regarded by employers, colleges and universities – with the help and supervision of our specially trained staff.
DofE is a particularly rewarding programme, growing strength of character as pupils work towards progressive levels of achievement: Bronze, Silver and Gold. The various Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition sections of the programme see pupils work both independently and as part of a team, embracing challenges and making memories for life.
