Senior Curriculum

Support for every child.

From ages 11 to 16, every boy and girl at St Clare’s Senior School benefits from the widest range of subject experience.

Our dedicated team of experienced subject specialists are committed to maximising the strengths of each individual, and guiding pupils through some of the most important stages of their education.

We recognise that pupils are individuals and make progress in their learning at different rates. We are proud to offer study support provision as well as opportunities for stretch and challenge, beyond the curriculum.

KEY STAGE 3 (YEARS 7-9)

A broad and creative syllabus.

Upon entry into the Senior School, St Clare’s pupils have a stimulating curriculum where they are taught the three core subjects, English Literature, English Language and Maths, together with three sciences, Biology, Chemistry and Physics (all taught separately) and two foreign languages, Spanish and French.

Pupils also have lessons in Humanities, Arts, Performing Arts, PE and Computer Science.

Further, a compulsory non-examined course in PE/Games, and a lesson of PSE or bespoke Careers Guidance is available each week.

Fantastic teaching skills, my children have always described the school as an extended family.

KEY STAGE 4 (YEARS 10-11)

Choosing GCSE Options in Year 9.

Choosing which GCSE subjects to take will shape what happens when your child leaves full-time education. Getting the right mix of skills and qualifications to prepare them for their future isn’t easy. How do they know they are making the right subject choices, especially if they don’t know what career they would like to follow?

Pupils choose their GCSE options in the spring term of Year 9, initially with their free choice of subjects in rank order and we create the timetable specifically for that cohort.

Although University might seem a long way off when deciding on GCSEs, choices at this stage can directly impact on options when it comes to A-Levels and, in turn when applying to University.

Make an informed choice.

For GCSE, St Clare’s pupils study the three core subjects: English Literature, English Language and Maths (including Numeracy) and at least one science. (Biology, Chemistry or Physics). In addition, a humanities subject and a modern foreign language (Spanish or French) are also strongly recommended to provide a broad and balanced curriculum. There is a wide choice available for pupils to personalise their curriculum to suit their strengths, their aspirations and their interests.

Graphics and Business are also available and Additional Maths will be offered to the more able mathematicians.
